Uttar Pradesh government planning to host MSME Summit to boost ODOP


With the great success of Uttar Pradesh Investors' Summit in February of this year, the chief minister Shri Yogi Adityanath government is planning to host another event which will be targeted for MSME sector. This MSME Summit in the state capital Lucknow will boost its ambitious 'One District One Product' scheme as well as generate huge employment opportunities for youth.

The state government is planning to hold an MSME Summit to give a big boost to the micro, small and medium Enterprise (MSME) sector which is the backbone of the state's economy. This summit will invite entrepreneurs in the MSME sector and will focus on providing international branding and marketing of traditional industries of the state under 'one district one product' scheme of the state government.

Famous for its heritage and old cultural backed local industries, every 76 district of Uttar Pradesh has a potential to manufacture a unique product. To list few of them, Kanpur is known for leather goods, Meerut is famous for its sports goods, Agra produces best leather footwear being exported to over two dozen countries. Similarly, Varanasi (Silk Sarees and beads), Moradabad (brassware), Saharanpur (Cane furniture), Mathura (Peda), Bhadohi (Carpet), Aligarh (Lock), Shahjahanpur (Handloom), Lucknow (Chikan), Mahoba (Paan), Kannauj (Itra and Perfume) are few examples of rich and strong Uttar Pradesh heritage. These products are world famous and have been exported to many countries.

The State government has worked on a roadmap to help local products to maintain international standards quality to compete within the international market. With the help of new technologies and support from exporters and local entrepreneurs along with right government policies, the revenue of this industry will double in next few years.
